Enzymes are non-living proteins that speed specific reactions. Septic products commonly market enzymes for materials such as proteins, starches, fats or cellulose.
Enzymes are not bacteria
Bacteria are living organisms that can produce enzymes. A product can contain one, the other or both.
Product information can be specific
RID-X safety information has identified enzymes such as amylase, cellulase and protease in septic-treatment formulas. That tells you about formulation, not whether a product replaces pumping.
EPA changes the buying frame
EPA says domestic systems already contain enzymes and microorganisms and does not recommend routine additives. Any paid enzyme treatment should therefore have a clearly defined purpose.
Maintenance still wins
Inspection reveals system condition, pumping removes accumulated material, and water/waste habits reduce loading. An enzyme packet cannot perform those jobs.
